I am not really looking into any post grad schooling however i see how participating in this co-curricular activity can be an excellent way for a person to prepare for the next phase of their academic journey and also provide valuable insights into one's personal & professional strengths/ limitations. They explained how important things like clear communication and being good at time management is extremely important for post grad, two things I’m very bad at but working on. For improved communication skill I have been working on asking more about things i might not have understood completely in class. Last semester was probably the first time i had done that since college, i just always felt that my questions were somehow going to give the professor the impression that i wasn’t supposed to be here. I know it seems extreme but sometimes when you are in such an advance program and everyone just seems to understand everything you can’t help but feel a little like an imposter when you don’t. However, last semester I decided that it didn’t matter if they thought i was dumb as long as i could get the explanation i need to pass and i was pleasantly surprised. Every question i asked were met with the upmost patience and it felt more like a discussion rather than a Q&A. This not only allowed me to better understand the topic but helped me feel less like an imposter because i was also contributing.
Another limitation i have been actively working on since last semester is my adaptability skill.
After the disaster that was my fall 2021, i finally understand that i can’t do the same things i did in college and expect to succeed because having to take a whole year of school was one of the worst things that happened to. I have performed poorly in classes before but i was never held back because of it and could always make it up so I was sort of cruising through the program subconsciously thinking this was the same which didn’t work out so well for me in the long run. Since last semester I have been practicing new study and note taking habits and adapting as i go. For example when I found that the way i studied for my Pcol and Patho class last semester didn’t work for therapeutics, as evidenced by my exam 1 score, this semester i tried a different way and actually saw an improvement on my exam 2. The only thing I’m worried about now though is that because i was so focused on that change i let my other classes slip and I can’t seem to get it back but i am still actively working at improving. |
